Training

HIPS and SIPS 12

We are pleased to announce that we are offering comprehensive, remote HIPS and SIPS training sessions, available for you to attend from wherever your workspace is currently located.

HIPS and SIPS 12 Training

The comprehensive remote hands-on training sessions, allows both new and current users to explore the use of CARIS HIPS and SIPS in the processing of multibeam, backscatter, water column or sidescan data. The course uses presentations, discussions and demonstrations, and hands-on practical exercises. The latest technology in the software will be covered during the course in order to familiarize participants with best practices for processing bathymetric data. This will include working with datasets of different formats, as well as efficient process automization using the next generation process designer!

Topics

CARIS HIPS Overview & Workflow

  • HIPS Vessel File and Project data structure
  • Computation of TPU
  • Conversion of raw data to HIPS format
  • Sound Velocity Correction (applying sound velocity profiles)
  • Applying tides (single or multiple tide stations)
  • Merging all sensors into processed depths with geographic positions
  • Surface creation (e.g. CUBE) using formats for large volume data storage
  • Error detection and analysis of auxiliary sensor information (e.g. navigation, motion, etc.)
  • Processing multibeam swath
  • Area-based cleaning using the Subset Editor
  • IHO and surface-based data filtering

Training Environment

The training will be held remotely using Teams as the platform for the online meeting. Teledyne CARIS will provide the installation files, training material beforehand as well as the necessary license file.

The trainees will need to connect with their hardware, suitable to run CARIS HIPS and SIPS. Teledyne CARIS cannot be held responsible for the quality of hardware and internet connections.
A stable internet connection will be required, mouse, dual screen setup as well as a headset are strongly recommended.

Audience

Any marine or hydrographic personnel wishing to gain a detailed technical overview of the CARIS HIPS and SIPS software. No previous HIPS usage is necessary, but the experience level of participants should be stated.

NOTE: A basic understanding of hydrographic survey operations is beneficial, as well as the use of computers is assumed for all course attendees. No previous experience in CARIS HIPS and SIPS is required.
