CARIS Bathymetric Data Management for Port of Tyne

The Port of Tyne in Newcastle, United Kingdom is the latest port to adopt CARIS software for bathymetric survey management and analyses.

The Port of Tyne is a key player in the Tyne and Wear region encompassing over 20 miles of river frontage supporting closely grouped industries dependent upon access to the river for their livelihood.

Using CARIS BEAMS, engineers at the Port will manage swath sonar data efficiently on different levels. BEAMS will further enable the port to create channel condition and shoal reports, design channel reference models and will offer them full volume calculation capabilities.

The Port of Tyne is one of the largest UK trust ports and its ambitious reinvestment programme has earned it the accolade of Port Operator of the Year at the prestigious Lloyds List London awards 2008. Further, the Institute of Transport Management named the Port of Tyne European Port of Year 2008 for the second year in succession.

Geerten Blessing, Managing Director, CARIS BV said "we are very proud to welcome the Port of Tyne among our ever increasing community of ports and waterways around the world, and we at CARIS look forward to working with them in the successful implementation of our bathymetric management and engineering solutions."

Representatives from the Port of Tyne participated in a five-day training session on the CARIS BEAMS system in October and intend to begin production with the system by the end of 2008.
