About the Author

Theirry Willaert obtained his bachelor’s degree in Organization and Management of works in Topography in 2000 and began his career as a surveyor, specializing in Topography and Bathymetry. He received in-house training on the integration and use of bathymetric equipment such as inertial, multibeam and lateral sonar and 3D laser scanners. In 2013, Theirry began working as a Hydrographer and Cartographer at the Port of Dunkirk. He is responsible for integration, calibration acquisition, and dredging study.

About the Image

While off the coast of the Bray-Dunes region in Northern France during the early morning hours of June 1, 1940, the HMS Keith was struck by three German Stuka dive-bombers. After being hit three times, the ship’s rudder became stuck and was unable to escape. Four more attacks gravely damaged the HMS Keith before it succumbed to its injuries and sank at 0915hrs. Total loss of life was 136 souls.
